Belong, Achieve, Thrive: Join Our Inclusion Team

Are you a passionate educator committed to keeping children with high-level needs thriving within mainstream education? Do you combine strong strategic leadership with high-quality specialist teaching?

Freshfield Primary School is seeking an inspiring, dedicated, and forward-thinking Mainstream SENCO to lead our inclusion offer and drive exceptional outcomes for our pupils.

At Freshfield, inclusion sits at the heart of our ethos. This unique, blended role combines direct specialist teaching, targeted intervention leadership, and the statutory management of mainstream SEND provision. Working alongside our specialized Resource Unit provisions (Haven, Hive, Horizon, and Hub), you will champion adaptive teaching, empower support staff, and ensure every child receives the tailored support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialist Teaching & Intervention: Deliver direct, high-quality specialist teaching to pupils with high-level needs and EHCPs. Lead and develop The Bridge—our targeted intervention space—ensuring support remains short, impactful, and aligned with the mainstream curriculum.

  • Statutory Leadership: Oversee the mainstream SEND register, manage EHCP processes, conduct annual reviews, coordinate multi-agency support, and maintain full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.

  • Coaching & Capacity Building: Coach, train, and quality-assure teaching assistants and support staff, elevating the standard of targeted intervention across the school.

  • Safeguarding Leadership: Fulfil a key safeguarding role as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL, recognizing the holistic link between SEND, attendance, behavior, and pupil well-being.

  • Inclusive Culture: Act as a Family Circle coach, upholding our whole-school values—the Freshfield Five: Be Kind, Work Hard, Work Together, Be Proud, Make a Difference.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential. Holding the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) and DSL certification is preferred; however, we warmly welcome applications from teachers ready to undertake this training upon appointment.

  • Experience: Proven classroom teaching experience with a track record of supporting diverse SEND needs, delivering targeted interventions, and working collaboratively with EHCPs, families, and external agencies.

  • Approach: A calm, resilient, and collaborative leader who balances strategic administration with hands-on, direct teaching, always aiming to foster pupil independence.

What We Offer

  • A supportive, warm school community dedicated to inclusion and belonging.

  • Collaborative opportunities across our specialized Resource Units and wider multi-school networks.

  • Dedicated professional development, including full support to complete the NASENCO qualification and DSL training if required.

  • Welcoming, engaged pupils and a collaborative team living the Freshfield Five values daily.
