An opportunity has arisen to join the enthusiastic and dedicated team at Birkdale Primary School. The Governors and Headteacher warmly welcomes applications to join our friendly, happy and thriving school. Initially the post is until 31.8.26 with the opportunity for this to be extended.
We are seeking to appoint an energetic, skilled and caring 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (Level 2). The prime role will be to support a pupil in year 1 with:

- Is enthusiastic and committed to making a difference
- Has a proven record of working with children (ideally with experience of working with SEND children)

- Has excellent communication skills at all levels, is a team player and has a desire to raise standards.

An understanding of the following would be desirable:
PDA informed approaches- reducing anxiety- driven demand avoidance.
- Sensory Regulation-understanding how to use sensory breaks and proprioceptive input to help pupils remain regulated and engaged.
- De-escalation-Knowledge of positive behaviour support and the ability to remain calm and nurturing during challenging moments.
- Co-regulation-by modelling the desired state through a calm voice and neutral body language.
The hours are 8.45am to 3.15pm. 27.5 hours per week
The post will begin as soon as possible following the appointment of a successful candidate following interviews.
Closing date for applications is at noon on Monday 23rd February 2026. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 3rd March 2026.
Due to the nature of work the post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and relevant care/safeguarding legislation and appointment will only be confirmed if a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure is obtained from the Criminal Records Bureau.
