The Governors of St. Jerome’s Catholic Primary School are seeking to appoint a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in Upper Key Stage 2 with Special Educational Needs, specifically a diagnosis of ASD. The pupil also needs support with expressing and managing anxiety caused by sensory processing, social interactions and new situations.

The role would involve 1 to 1 support within the class under the guidance and direction of the class teacher; and with support from the existing class TA.

The post is 30 hours per week, to start as soon as possible.

The position is fixed for one year in the first instance as it is dependent on High Needs Funding and may cease if the funding ends or the child leaves the school. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and safer recruitment checks.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a recognised teaching assistant qualification at a minimum of Level 2 or similar.
  • Has experience of working with children who have SEND on a 1 to 1 basis or within a group; supporting their learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Has experience of working with children who need support with communication and anxieties related to sensory processing, social pressures and new situations.
  • Has experience of working with primary aged children and their parents.
  • Is genuine in their desire to work with children as part of an inclusive, committed and caring team.
  • Is enthusiastic, flexible and has a sense of humour.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
